Wanted: Dust + Light pics

More details to come soon, though it is safe to say the 100+ participants of DUST + LIGHT left a great buzz in the air.

...in the meantime, if you were there on Saturday and snapped a few pictures, we'd love to add them to our documentation of the night.

Dust + Light Press Release

For IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Greater Victoria Artists Collaborate to Explore the Truth of Easter Through the themes of DUST and LIGHT.

(VICTORIA, BC – March 8th, 2006)

An art exhibition will be presented starting at 7 pm on Friday April 7th, 2006, at 3795 Carey Rd, the new location of Victoria Sport Utility car dealership. The event, named "Dust and Light," will gather together a multi-sensory display of visual image, sculptural design, audio performance, and written reflections on the seasons of Lent and Easter.

Dust and Light aims to make possible a tactile and participatory reflection alongside this year's celebration of Easter. Entries include a sculpture by Nathan Scott, creator of the Terry Fox sculpture at Mile 0, and visual art by James Nesbitt, whose work has been displayed in Victoria during the Orcas in the City display, as well as at the 2005 Luminara Festival. The evening will also feature a live iconographer at work, various paintings, interactive art, live music performances, and poetry readings. Refreshments will be served. All ages are welcomed. Entry to the event is by donation, with all proceeds going towards facilitating future events that foster the development of the Christian art community in Victoria.

For additional information on the event or artists featured, please contact: poasis {at} gmail {dot} com | 477.9731 ext 242

Artist Roster filling out etc

Just a quick update for those of you wondering how things are shaping up for April 7th's Dust & Light lenten reflection. The artist roster* (see below) is filling out nicely, the venue is secured, media promotion should begin next week and word-of-mouth is making it's ways around the church of Victoria, and we're still looking for anyone interested in helping pull this thing off. If you'd like to take part in telling the truth(s) of Easter through this event send us an email and we'll throw you in the loop.

*James Nesbitt is creating some light sculptures; Julia Stobbe is working with some photographs and possibly a projection with Anthony Andrews; Nathan Scott is submitting a sculpture; Joshua Van Leeuwen of Counting Heartbeats will be spinning the decks all mellow and lo-fi; Daniel Priest will be reading some Dead Man poetry; Matthew Davidson will be playing a song or three; Rhonda Soullier, Jason Nobel, and Seraphim will be contributing paintings; AND we've got an inconographer lined up to do her thing live.

Venue & updates

As you'll notice, a sweet venue has been secured for April 7th's Dust + Light show. We're still gathering together the artists to be involved in the curation of the night and hammering out some details, but on the whole things are shaping up nicely. Rumour has it that the night will involve more than a few projected images and a reading or three. Keep spreading the word!

Dust + Light

Join in the collected Lenten reflection of local artists as they seek to "tell the truth" through a multi-sensory study and exploration of "DUST."

April 7th, 2006 | 3795 Carey Rd (see map) | 7pm

About "DUST + LIGHT"

An event in two movements, DUST and LIGHT hopes to gather a multisensory display of visual image, sculptural design, audio performance and written reflections on the season of Lent. Asking how dust and light can prepare us for, and point toward the truth(s) of Easter we're gathering artists together and seeking their disoveries, thoughts, and perspectives on the subject. Encouraging each artist to work with the idea of interaction grounded firmly in the seed of their process, we hope Dust and Light make possible a tactile and participatory reflection alongside this year's celebration of Easter.
